SOUTH BEND - Lucy M. Rice, 59, residing in South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 10:10 AM Thursday, August 16, 2012, at her home. Lucy was born January 25, 1953, in South Bend, to the late John Vernon and Elizabeth Anne (Kleindorfer) Zoss, and had remained a lifelong resident of this area.

Lucy graduated from Riley High School and attended Ivy Tech, receiving her Nurse's Aide Certification. She worked as a Nurse's Aide for 22 years.

Lucy is survived by her good friend and former husband, Jeff Rice; daughter, Valarie Rice of South Bend; son, Jamie Rice of Lakeville; grandchildren, Jasmine, Jaylynn, Alexander and Brendon; great-grandchild, Annalicia; and sisters, Ruth Ann (Joseph) Graziano of Oakbrook, IL, and Rebecca Jean (Charlie) Bunch of Mishawaka.

She was preceded in death by her infant brother, John Zoss.

Lucy was a very positive person and enjoyed bringing laughter to those whom she met. She enjoyed dancing, playing Bingo, listening to music, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was loved by all.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Lucy's caregiver and friend, Reginald King, for his wonderful and compassionate care. They also wish to thank Lucy's family physician, Dr. Ebonee Davis, M.D., and the staff of Family Home Nursing, with a special note of appreciation to Rita Burnett.

A memorial service for Lucy M. Rice will be held at a later date.
