Arthur Elvin High

Dec 3, 1918 - Jun 13, 2004

Las Vegas, Nev. Arthur Elvin High, 85, of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away Sunday, June 13, 2004, peacefully in his sleep, at home in Las Vegas, Nev., surrounded by members of his loving family, after a lengthy illness. Arthur, "Andy" as he was known to many friends and family, was born Dec. 3, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., to Nina G. Cooney and Arthur E. High.

Andy was a Camarillo resident for more than 30 years, planting permanent roots after a 26-year career with United States Air Force. Of the more than 40 duty stations he mustered to during his career, his favorite would have to be Ramstein Air Force Base Germany. There, he could enjoy the many historical and diverse customs of the European continent. Andy also taught industrial arts at Monte Vista Middle School in the Pleasant Valley School District for 16 years.

He immensely enjoyed teaching his "sweat hogs" the finer points of woodworking and small-engine repair.

Andy was married to the former Elaine A. Vanderbilt for 63 years and together raised three sons, Gary of Bakersfield, Keith of Camarillo and James of Davis. He is also survived by his daughters-in-law, Peggy (husband Gary), Elizabeth Anne-(husband Keith) and Elizabeth (husband James); grandson, Steven; and granddaughter, Alison. Alison was married on July 31, and Andy's only wish was to be present at her wedding
