Mary Marguerite Murphy

Mary Marguerite Murphy, 101, of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation, formerly of West LaSalle Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died Friday morning, April 30, in the nursing home. Mary retired from Washington High School as a teacher for 43 years.

She was born on Feb.3, 1903, in Lafayette, Ind., to John and Josephine (Lesley) Murphy, who preceded her in death, along with three sisters, Elizabeth, Josephine and Dr.Rosemary Murphy, and a brother, John.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m.Monday, May 3, in St.Patrick’s Catholic Church, 303 S.Taylor St.Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.Friends may call from 9 a.m.until services Monday in the church.

She was a graduate of South Bend Central High School and Purdue University.She was a member of St.Patrick’s Parish, the NEA (National Education Association) and Circle of Mercy. Memorials may be made to the Circle of Mercy, to The Forever Learning Institute or to the parish. The HICKEY Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3516 E.
