Pearl V Tompkins (Sexton) - Class Of 1939 VIEW PROFILE

Pearl V. Sexton

Sept. 29, 1921 - Dec. 19, 2002

Pearl Victoria Sexton, 81, of Edwardsburg, Mich., formerly of Campeau Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away quietly in her home on Thursday, Dec. 19, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

She was born in Milroy, Ind., to Toney V. and Clara Mae (Richey) Tompkins on Sept. 29, 1921, and later moved to South Bend where she lived with Crystal and Dan Webster and graduated from Riley High School.

On Jan. 13, 1942, she married Rupert James "Jim" Sexton, who preceded her in death on June 9, 1992. Pearl was also preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Hungerford of Milroy and Alice Bell of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Turk Tompkins of Greensburg, Ind., and Delmar Tompkins of Anderson, Ind.; and by a grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Over the years in South Bend, Pearl was employed by Darnell Drugs, Hazelips Bakery, Fanny Mae Candies, and 1 W. T. Grant & Co. She was a member of the St. Joseph Chapter #575 of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of VFW Post #360.

Pearl is survived by her four children, Sherrie (Oscar) Alverson of Alamogordo, N.M., Sandra (Don) Tetzloff of Granger, Ind., Viki (Joe) Dundon of South Bend and James A. Sexton of Edwardsburg; and by nine grandchildren and 11 greatgrandchildren.

Besides being a great mother to the four of us, she was an avid reader, gardener, puzzle enthusiast, and the greatest cook we knew. She was a marvelously doting grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an inspiration to us all for her courage and fortitude.

There will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Hospice or to a library. The Bubb Funeral Chapel, Mishawaka, Ind., is handling arrangements.
