Michael Anthony "Gator" Winston, Sr.
November 16, 1970 ~ November 16, 2024 54 Years Old
Affectionately known as "Gator" by those who loved him and the self-proclaimed Mayor of the Southside, Michael Anthony Winston, Sr. departed this life on November 16th, 2024, at the age of 54.
Born in South Bend, Indiana, on November 16th, 1970, Michael was the youngest son of John and Peggy (Castleman) Winston. Growing up on the city’s South side, Michael attended Oliver School and played for the Southside Little League for many years. He spent most of his high school years at Riley but graduated from Washington. He was known by many as the grill master for everybody in the neighborhood and never missed an opportunity to bring friends and family together with his food. His quick wit, infectious laughter, and ability to bring joy to any room made him a beloved presence among his family and friends. Michael’s gift for turning sadness into laughter will be remembered by all who knew him.
His parents survive along with his wife Jamie (Barker) Winston. His three children who he loved more than anything, Alyssa Winston, Michael “Da Boogie” Winston Jr. and Anthony “AJ” (Analise Carrillo) Winston. One grandchild, Braxton Torres.
Two step-children, Ashley Scroggins and William Scroggins III. And 7 step-grandchildren, Christopher Teska, Jayden Jones, Braeson Scroggins, Malachi Goodwin, Elijah Scroggins, William Scroggins IV, and Aiden Scroggins.
One sister, Tonya Winston, and his two brothers, Melvin (Maria) Winston and John “JDubbs” Winston, Jr. A host of nephews and nieces: Duane, Rachael, Audreana, Yeagene, Jade, Linae, Aaron, Jazmin (Forrest) and John III (McKenzie).
Special friends who were more like family, the Shelton Family, Doug & Gina Gary, Orlando & Tiffany Murphy, Casey Harper, Vino Lopez, the entire Pedraza Family, Michael Parrack, Eddie Clay, Jermiatt Easton, Joshua Harris, Rahen Prieto, Domingo Carrillo, Andre Goober, Sean Diggins, Mary and Adam Hertel, BYP, Charles Gilliam and so many more.
He was greeted in heaven by Domenik “D-MO” Briggs, Joe “Whop” Carrillo, Teddy B, and Pumpkin.
The outpouring of condolences and stories from loved ones since his passing is a testament to the countless lives he touched. A man of laughter, love, and strength. A legacy that will continue to shine brightly in the lives of those he held dear. May his light never be dimmed.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 30th, 2024, from 2:00pm-7:00pm at The Landing located at 2801 S Michigan Street, South Bend IN, 46614.
