December 26, 1951 ~ February 5, 2025
Alan Duane Hostetler, age 73 years of Niles, Michigan; husband, father, grandfather, friend to all, died peacefully at home, following an extended illness.
He was born on December 26, 1951 in South Bend, Indiana to Clayton and Lorene(Kryzanowski) Hostetler, and was graduated from Riley High School. He was employed for many years at the former Rose's Hatchery, Inc. in South Bend, overseeing the incubation, hatching, and shipping of eggs and chicks. He was an active 4-H supporter, with a wealth of knowledge in poultry. He later served as manager at several local hotels, including the Ramada Inn. Where he made life-long friends.
He enjoyed shopping, and always knew where to get the best deals or who had the best sales. He loved cooking, chitchatting on the phone, giving his grandkids rides on the mower or tractor, and feeding and watching the birds. Most of all he loved his family. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
On June 10, 1972 he married the former Annitta Marie Haley at an outdoor ceremony on her parents’ farm. They celebrated last year the remarkable Fifty-second Anniversary of their wedding. Together they had a small hobby farm, raising horses, goats, rabbits, and chickens.
Surviving family includes his wife, Annitta Hostetler and their children, Clayton Hostetler, Chaney Hostetler, Audrey (& Ryan) Kelley, all of Niles; grandchildren, Haley Lewandowski, Nickolas (&Rebecca) Lewandowski, Deena (& Daniel) Smith, Douglas Lewandowski, Destiny Szucs and Taylor Szucs; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Anthony Petrowsky, Otho Hostetler, and Harold Hostetler.
Family will have a private service and committal at a later date.
