Augustus Lee, V Sanford

Augustus Lee Sanford, V

February 28, 2003   ~   May 22, 2025         (age 22)

Augustus Lee Sanford V, born on February 28, 2003, in Denver, CO, and was raised in South Bend, IN was a beacon of light in the lives of many. A vibrant soul who, despite his physical limitations, embraced life with vigor and joy, Augustus brought laughter, warmth, and love to all who knew him. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Augustus embodied this sentiment every day of his life.

In his early years, Augustus attended Lincoln Elementary School, Studebaker Elementary, Navarre Middle School, and later graduated from Riley High School. He loved sports, especially football, and while he may not have been able to participate in the traditional sense, Augustus was always the most passionate spectator.

His hobbies included dancing, skating, and doing impersonations, each one better than the last, that kept his family and friends laughing. His free-hearted nature and propensity to look out for those he loved made him a cherished member of his community.

Augustus is survived by a loving family who will forever hold him close in their hearts: his father, Augustus Sanford; his daughters, Xzara Sanford; his sisters, Tatiana Davis, Brittany Davis, Tiera Davis, and Anoje Sanford; his brother, Tajon Griffin; his grandmother, Brenda Griffin; his aunts, Tangie Singleton, Tashawn Griffin, Takiya Simmons and Amelia Robertson; Uncles Mark, Michael, and Maurice and his cousins, Tyanika (Fred) Patton, Jasmine Singleton, Joyce Manard, Courtney (Seneithea) Griffin and Gregory Manard. He is preceded in death by his mother, Tashee Griffin; his great-grandmother, Bernice Griffin; and his great uncles, Frank Griffin and Johnny Griffin.

In the words of Helen Keller, "What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes part of us." Augustus's spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him. We invite you to share your memories of Augustus, upload photos, and celebrate his life on his memorial page.
