Charlene Zick, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Friday, June 13, 2025, in her daughter's home. Born on March 21, 1944, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, Charlene's life was a testament to her resilience, dedication, and the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life.
The daughter of the late Charles O. and Maggie (Jackett) Smith, and step-daughter to the late Wilma Geffs, Charlene grew up in a family that valued strong bonds and the importance of tradition. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Edward "Zeke" Zick, her beloved sons, Troy Woods and Tony Woods, her treasured granddaughter, Lillian, and her dear sister, Dianne Ingram, and brother, Jerry Smith. Despite these profound losses, Charlene's spirit remained unbroken, and she continued to be a pillar of strength for her family.
Charlene's legacy is carried on by her loving daughters, Tracey Johnson and Aimee (Paul) Ackerman; her son, Timothy (Darryl) Murfin; her adored grandchildren, Brittney, Anthony, Hayle, Serrina, and Kira; her sister, Therese (David) Jack; her brothers, Stephen (Melea) Smith and Scott (Vicky) Smith; and her brother-in-law, Chuck Ingram. Each of them will forever cherish the memories and lessons she imparted.
A proud graduate of Riley High School, Charlene's professional journey was marked by dedication and excellence. She served as a Systems Software Analyst Manager for Cameron Ashley Building, where she retired after 38 years of commendable service. Charlene's career path also included a significant tenure at All Phase Electric in St. Joseph, Michigan, where she worked for 12 years.
Charlene's faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted member of the Church of Christ. Her Christian beliefs guided her through life's challenges and triumphs, providing her with solace and purpose. Charlene's love for gambling was well-known among her friends and family, who often joined her in this spirited pastime, creating countless joyful memories.
The funeral service to celebrate Charlene's life will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service to share stories, laughter, and tears in remembrance of a life so beautifully lived. Following the service, Charlene will be laid to rest at Southlawn Cemetery, where she will be reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her.
Charlene Zick's life was a tapestry of love, hard work, and faith. Her warm smile, generous heart, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us for generations to come.
