In Memory

David "Dave" James McClurg
May 21, 1961 ~ April 28, 2026 64 Years Old
David James McClurg, 64, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, following a courageous 15-year battle with health challenges after a liver transplant in 2011. His strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit were an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
David was born on May 21, 1961, in Napoleon, Ohio, to James McClurg (deceased 2003) and Pauline McClurg. He was raised with strong family values that remained at the center of his life. A 1979 graduate of Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana, David built a career rooted in hard work and dedication. He spent many years in sales at Wheel and Rim Sales Company before continuing his career at Gunite Corporation, where he worked in purchasing for nearly 15 years. In 2008, he followed his passion and founded his own lawn maintenance company, proudly operating it until his retirement.
David met the love of his life, Sheri (Sauer), while they were still in high school. They married in 1980 and shared 45 wonderful years together, building a life filled with love, laughter, and family. He is survived by his beloved wife Sheri; his children Stephani Ventura (David), Nichole McClurg, and Travis McClurg (Becca); and his cherished grandchildren Vince McCoy, Nicolette Young, and Hunter McClurg. He also leaves behind several beloved grand dogs.
David was preceded in death by his father James McClurg, his paternal grandmother Tillie McClurg, and his sisters Pam Fullmer (2024) and Carol (Mike) Hearn (2025). He is survived by his mother Pauline McClurg and his sisters Debbie (Dave) Fick and Linda (Rick) Craig.
He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—fishing, camping, Notre Dame football, NASCAR, country music, dancing, and time with family, especially around their backyard pool. David will be remembered for his kindness, perseverance, and deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the memories he created.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 12p.m., at Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46614.
