Martin Isaac Cantu Murillo

January 30, 2005    ~    June `13, 2026

Martin Isaac Cantu Murillo, 21, of South Bend, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois. Though his time on earth was far too short, Martin left behind a lifetime of memories filled with love, laughter, and genuine connection.

Martin was born on January 30, 2005, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Christina (Murillo) Plata. In 2012, he moved with his family to the Michiana area, where he grew up and built strong friendships and deep bonds with those around him.

Martin had a passion for cars that truly defined a part of who he was. He loved working on them, learning about them, and spending time at car meets surrounded by others who shared that same interest. Whether he was under the hood or just talking cars, it was something that brought him joy and excitement.

More than anything, Martin loved being around his family and friends. He cherished the time he spent with them—laughing, making memories, and simply enjoying life together. He shared a special bond with his sister and always made time for those he cared about. Martin had a kind heart and a bright spirit that naturally drew people in. He will always be remembered as someone who brought light, energy, and love into every room he entered.

Martin is survived by his loving mother, Christina Plata; his sister, Adelaidah Murillo of South Bend, and two step- sisters, Leylani and Asurim Plata. He is also survived by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and countless friends who loved him dearly. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Rocco, who was a constant companion.

Martin's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 26th from 4:00 until 8:00pm at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home, 23421 SR 23, South Bend. Friends may also visit with the family one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Casimir Catholic Church, 1302 Dunham St., South Bend, at 11:00am on Saturday, June 27th, with Fr. Ryan Pietrocarlo, CSC officiating.
