Joan Ruth (McLaine) Long

May 4, 1921 – June 7, 2004

Joan Ruth Long, 83, of Regency Place, formerly of Karl King Towers and Ardmore, died Monday morning, June 7, in Regency Place. Joan was born on May 4, 1921, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Curtis and Bertha McLaine.

On June 18, 1940, she married Donald E. Long in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1971.

Joan worked for Bonnie Doons from 1943 to 1957.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Loretta (Walt) Pellow; a son, Donald E. (Heather) Long Jr., both of South Bend; four grandchildren, Jeff and Michael Long, Dennis (Cheryl) Pellow and Marlena (Steve) Wilson; two great-grandchildren, Johnathon Long and Madison Pellow; and by a sister, Virginia (Morris) Wallace of Plymouth, Ind.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend, with Rev.Wilson Shabaz. There will be no visitation.

Joan was a graduate of Riley High School.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of St.Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637;or to the Cancer Society of St.Joseph County, 711 E. Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN 46601. The HICKEY FUNERAL HOMES and CREMATION SERVICE, 17131 Cleveland Road, is in charge of arrangements.
