Richard “Dick” Garrison Baer, 89, of Granger, Indiana passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Hubbard Hill Living Wisdom Community in Elkhart, IN. Dick was born on October 31, 1931, in South Bend, IN, to the late Wayne and Helen (O’Neil) Baer. On May 3, 1958 in Mishawaka, IN, he married Jean (Diroll) Baer, who survives.

In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Dick is survived by his sons, Rick (Diane) Baer of Wilmette, IL, and Wayne (Janet) Baer of Carmel, IN; daughters, Karen (Gregg) Barkley of South Bend, IN, and Julie (Ken) Stevens of Naperville, IL; eight grandchildren, Conor (Caitlin) Barkley, Griffin (Clare) Barkley, Eileen Baer, Audrey Baer, Sydney Stevens, Sami Stevens, Kevin Baer, Hannah Baer; twin great-grandsons, Nolan and Wes Barkley; brother, Ed (Cathy) Baer of South Bend, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Wayne and Helen, Dick was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane Snyder; twin brother, Tom Baer; and brother, Jack Baer.

Dick was a 1950 graduate of Riley High School in South Bend, during which time he was awarded the Eagle Scout Badge. After graduation, Dick served as a Navy Medical Corpsman at the naval hospital in Oakland, California during the Korean War. After being the national sales manager at Jessup Door Company, he spent most of his career in sales within the mobile home industry working at Banks Lumber Company, Universal Forest Products and North American Forest Products, Inc., where he retired in 2001 as the vice president of sales.

Dick loved his family and being a grandfather. In addition to spending time with his family, he also enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and spending time at the beaches in both New Buffalo, Michigan, and Sarasota, Florida. He was also an avid Notre Dame football fan.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.
