June 17, 1916 - March 10, 2005

William A. Banfi, 88, of Grand Avenue, Elkhart, Ind., died Thursday morning, March 10, 2005, in his residence. Mr. Bann was born June 17, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Oscar and Ida (Bokor) Banfi, and had lived in the South Bend—Elkhart area most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine (Kenney) in 1975; a sister, Ruth Banfi; two brothers, Edward and Walter Banfi; and by his parents. He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Thomas) Osthimer of South Bend and Beth (J. Thomas) Jacks of Raleigh, N.C.; one son, William K. Banfi of Mishawaka, Ind.; eight grandchildren and seven grandchildren; and his loving companion, Olive Trowbridge of Elkhart. Mr. Banfi retired from the inventory department of the A.M. General Corporation in 1979.

He was a January 1936 graduate of Riley High School.

He was a member of Harvest Ministries and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #599, both of Elkhart, and a life member of the former South Bend Turners.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 14, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with Rev. Pat Hutsell and Rev. Lowell Hutsell of Harvest Ministries officiating. Cremation will take place at Michiana Crematory, South Bend, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call one hour prior to ser-vices Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Harvest Ministries, 54820 County Road 1, Elkhart, IN 46514; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
