Peter Gregory III Allen - Class Of 1975 VIEW PROFILE

Peter Gregory III Allen

Peter Gregory Allen, III

March 15, 1956 ~ February 21, 2024

Peter Gregory Allen III, 67, affectionately known as Pete, of South Bend, Indiana, beloved husband, father, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend, transitioned from this life on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, after battling a brief illness. He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana on March 15th, 1956, to the late Marie Garner Taylor Walker and the late Peter Allen Jr.

Pete moved with his mother and stepfather, the late Joseph A. Taylor, to South Bend at the age of 5. Early on in his childhood, Pete displayed an infectious and outgoing personality, so much so that it endeared him to everyone that he encountered.  He would show this personality trait throughout his life. While in elementary school, he was awarded the Citizenship Award for the service in kind that he showed to his classmates and others.

As a pre-teen, Pete was baptized into the Christian faith as a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in South Bend.

Pete was a naturally gifted athlete and excelled at any sport that he chose to play. He began playing football in earnest while in middle school.  He would later go on to letter in both varsity football and basketball while attending Riley High School.  He graduated from Riley High School in 1975.

On June 29, 2013, in Chicago, Illinois Pete was united in holy matrimony to Barbara Simpson. He was a devoted and loving husband until his passing.

Pete was a skilled laborer throughout his career and was a Forged Team Specialist while employed at The Eaton Corporation; he retired from Eaton in May of 2022. He enjoyed landscaping and could often be found caring for his lawn or doing other outdoor projects. He embodied what it was to be a “good neighbor” always willing to lend a hand — even if it meant clearing a driveway for a neighbor during a severe snowstorm.

As a Green Bay Packers Fan, Pete loved watching his favorite team compete while sitting in his “man cave,” that was in the basement of his home.   He was an avid fisherman and often went on fishing trips with his friends and co-workers.  Pete also loved to bowl and was pretty good at it. He enjoyed spending time at the local bowling alley challenging friends and family to games. Pete was an industrious worker and an excellent provider for his family. He was so full of life, and he loved to have fun.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and used every opportunity to do so no matter how small or big the occasion was.

Along with his mother, father and stepfather, Pete was also preceded in death a daughter, Latonya Allen; two sisters, Cynthia Jenkins and Stacy Williams, and a brother, Kenneth C. Allen Sr.

Pete leaves to cherish his loving memory, his devoted wife, Barbara Allen; two daughters, Jasmine and Hope Allen; a loving son, Quincy Simpson;  a granddaughter, Takara Holmes; sisters, Wanda (Lynn) Shaw of  Louisville, Kentucky, Joyce Marie Brown of Lynnwood, Washington, Veronica Taylor of  Sibley, Louisiana, Debra (Wayne) Osborne and Yvon Allen-Rosten (Kenneth Sr) all of Shreveport, Louisiana; loving uncles, aunts, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends in the South Bend Community and beyond.
