A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2010 in North Webster, IN at Lake Webster.

Robert Allen Amber, 50, of North Webster, IN, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009, after a one year battle with esophageal cancer. Bob was a patient in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend at the time of his death and had been in the loving care of his family during his illness. Bob was born July 20, 1959, in Mishawaka to the late Wayne Amber and Mary Jane (Miller) Friend.

He graduated from James Monroe Elementary School and James Whitcomb Riley High School, South Bend.

Bob was a professional welder and formerly worked for Manchester Tank Company of South Bend. He most recently worked for Hoosier Fence Company of Nappanee, IN in production and Crystal Flash of North Webster, IN. Bob had resided in the Warsaw and North Webster area since 1995. Bob leaves to celebrate his life's memories his mother, Mary Jane Friend and father, Ed Friend of South Bend; daughter, Kalie Amber of Ft. Wayne; three brothers, John Amber of Jupiter, FL, Edward H. Friend of Oreana, IL and Tommy Friend of Chicago, IL; special aunts, Jeannine Miller and Nancy Hurtle of South Bend; and former wife, Kimberly Amber-Potter of Mishawaka.

His sister, Deborah (Michael) Cira, of South Bend preceded him to heaven on October 27, 2008, also a victim of cancer.

Bob wanted special thanks given to Dr. Jose Bufill, M.D. and his angels, and to Jan McLaughlin and Ben Lauber of North Webster for their support during his illness. Bob had three loves in his wonderful life: his daughter, Kalie, the community of North Webster and Lake Webster, and Notre Dame football. He took pride in his bar-b-quing, hosting family parties and boating. He leaves behind a spirit of living each day to the fullest and a family that loved and supported him along the road of life.

At his request, Bob has been cremated. Anyone wishing to make a contribution to Kalie's continuing college education may do so through the Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN. Online condolences may be offered to Bob's family at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
