Loyal R. Bare

Dec. 27, 1914 — March 15, 2005 

Loyal Russell Bare, 90, of Oakcrest Drive, South Bend, died following an illness at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2005, in his residence. Mr. Bare was born December 27, 1914, in Olive Township, St. Joseph County, to the late William and Ruby (Rupe) Bare, and was a lifetime area resident.

On March 12, 1948, in South Bend, he married Evelyn M. Kunce, who preceded him in death on January 18, 1956. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Henry, Geraldine B. Smith and Mary McCarty; and four brothers, Elwood "Bud" Bare, Edward Bare, Raymond D. Bare and Clyde O. Bare. He is survived by two daughters, Sandra (James) Rodts of Mishawaka and Evelyn "Eve" (Jeff) Smith of South Bend; six grandchildren, Hal Gaddy and Tim Gaddy, both of Osceola, and Lynn Gaddy, Ahmanda Smith, Curtis Smith and Jacob Smith, all of South Bend; and two great-grand-children, Nathaniel Sanders and Tre Sanders.

Mr. Bare retired as a partner of the Century 21 Manor Realty. He was a 50-year member of St. Joseph Lodge #45 F&AM and Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. He was also a member of York Rite South Bend Chapter 29, Council 82, Commandry 13, and Royal Arch Masons Chapter 29 where he served as past high priest, and Orak Shrine Temple, Michigan City. He had also formerly been a member of the South Bend Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters and the B.K. Club.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 18, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, with Rev. Kenneth Peterson of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today, March 17, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN
