Virginia May Miller

SOUTH BEND - Virginia May (Bachtel) Miller, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2011, six days before her 91st birthday, at home with her daughter, son-in-law, and her faithful K9 companion, Buddy. She was born on February 28, 1920, in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Vernon O. and Edith (Dawson) Bachtel.

She is remembered for her independence, dignity and desire to succeed. She strove to pass these characteristics on to her children. She was an accomplished pianist, artist and by profession, school teacher, teaching 4th grade at Monroe Elementary School in South Bend, Indiana.

She married James F. Miller in 1980 and they traveled to exotic places such as China, Egypt and Greece, settling in Mesa, Arizona, in 1984.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James F. Miller; sister, Mary Blakeman; son, Richard Paul Murrmann; and grandson, Robert Murrmann.

Surviving are her sister, Dora Mathisen of Chatham, NJ; her children, Kent F. Murrmann (Suzanne) of Blacksburg VA, George J. Murrmann (Margaret) of Indianapolis, IN, Don N. Murrmann (Marilyn) of Kerrville, TX, Kathy J. Swanson (Robert) of Mesa, AZ, JoEllen DePaepe (Robert) of South Bend, IN; her daughter-in-law, Judy Murrmann of Beckley WVa; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and her companion, Buddy.
