HAROLD G. BASEY

Harold Glen Basey, 92, passed away May 26, 2012 in Blue Springs, MO. He was born in New Augusta, IN, on Aug. 10, 1919 to Carrie (Campbell) and Glen Basey.

Harold graduated in 1938 from Riley High School in South Bend, IN, then acquired a one year certificate in Accounting from the College of Commerce in South Bend. He worked as a General Clerk at Drummey Cartage Co, from 1938-1941 before serving in the Army. He was inducted April 9, 1941 at Fort Wayne, IN with an Honorable Discharge Nov. 7, 1945 from the Separation Center, Camp Atterbury, IN. Harold was in the T-SGT 38 Division Headquarters Battery 150th Field Artillery Battalion and as Communications' Chief, he supervised 49 Radio Men, Switch Board Operators, Lineman, Message Center Personal and Radio Mechanics. He served on campaigns in the Southern Philippines, Luzon, and New Guinea. Harold received many decorations and citations including a Good Conduct Ribbon, American Defense Service Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic- Pacific Theater Ribbon With 3 Bronze stars, American Theater Ribbon, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star.

After separating from the Army Harold entered an Electrician Apprenticeship Program at Studebaker Corp. located in South Bend. He worked at Studebaker until they closed in 1963.

Harold married Esther H. Lizenby June 19, 1950 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. Harold and Esther had a daughter, Karen, on Oct. 25. 1951 and a son, William on Oct. 8, 1954. In 1963 Studebaker closed, Harold took a job with Fisher Body in Kansas City, MO.

He remained at GM until his retirement in 1980. After retirement Harold spent a lot of his time researching genealogy which he really enjoyed.

Harold was preceded in death by His Loving Wife Esther (Lizenby); Parents Carrie (Campbell), and Glen Basey ;two Brothers, Ronald Basey, and Robert Basey; and Sister Mary. Harold is survived by his daughter, Karen Hobbs and her husband Larry of Lawrence, KS; his son William "Bill" Basey of Blue Springs MO; nephew James Basey of New Brunfels, TX; niece Jill Basey of Van Nuys CA.

A visitation will begin 1 p.m. Thursday May 31, 2012 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W. Main Street, Blue Springs, MO. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, May 31, 2012, 2 p.m., by minister Bob Martin, at the Blue Springs Cemetery, 2800 W. Walnut St. Blue Springs, MO.
