In Memory
Glenn James Curtis
September 14, 1938 ~ December 14, 2024 86 Years Old
Glenn (Jim) Curtis passed away at his home in Mishawaka, IN on 12/14/2024. Jim was born September 14th, 1938, in Wabash, IN to Glenn W and Ethelmae Curtis. In true Curtis fashion, Jim's father transposed the first and middle name on the birth certificate. Although his given 1st name was Glenn, he was Jimmie or Jim to all friends and family.
As a child, Jim acquired the nickname "Sunny" from his family due to his always happy disposition. The Curtis family moved to South Bend when Jim was a young boy. He used to leave the house very early in the morning and come home well after dark. This worried his mother and he'd get a good "talking to" when he got home. Finally, Jim's dad stopped his mom mid-reprimand and told her "Just let him be. That boy was born to play!"
One of Jim's favorite memories was getting up at 4AM and helping the local milkman on his route during the summer. Payment for his services was a bottle of chocolate milk which he drank directly after getting off the truck.
As a teen, Jim got Involved in the Boy Scouts and was selected to go to Philmont Scout Ranch. His love for scouting continued and later in life and he spent his time helping scouts in the Lakeville troop with their Eagle Scout projects
Jim joined the Army in 1958 and spent most of his enlistment in Toul France. During that time, he was able to visit most of Europe. While in France, Jim was introduced to Linda Richard through a family friend. Jim and Linda exchanged letters for the remainder of his enlistment. When Jim returned home, he and Linda met and dated for a short while. Jim proposed to Linda at Potawatomi Park and they were married at Linda's home on September 21, 1962.
Jim worked for Equifax (formally Retail Credit Company) until his retirement as an insurance investigator and had many colorful stories from his time there.
Jim and Linda had two sons: Scott born 6/26/1964 and Brady born 12/11/1969. He is survived by both sons, grandchildren Jessica Jager & Nathan Curtis, & great grandchildren Jackson Jager, Preston Jager, and Xander Curtis.
Jim loved his family and friends, genealogy, and animals.
